Mr. Boston Goes West

It has been a dream that has been on hold for three years, but in a few weeks the Mr. Boston Top Fuel Dragster team will finally realize their desire to race at the fabled Bakersfield March Meet, the Mecca of front engine dragster racing.

The Springfield, Massachusetts-based team, led by principals, Ed Reggeri, Nick Graham, and regular driver Tom ‘Tuna’ Steed have already transported their car to California chassis builder Dave Tuttle where updates to the chassis are being performed in preparation for testing before the event.

In order to make the long-standing dream a reality the Mr. Boston team formed an alliance with West Coast racer Pete Jensen and his Foothill Flyer team. Jensen will coordinate the work being done to the car in California, and then add his skills to the tuning talent already in place on the team. He will also bring along members of his own team to fill in for regular members of the Mr. Boston team who are unable to make the trip to California.

Also new for this venture will be the temporary addition of veteran driver Howard Haight in the driver’s seat. A California expatriate now living in Indiana, he has years of experience and numerous successes at the Bakersfield track. Haight’s talent and services became available when his regular ride, the New York-based Nitro-diction AA/FD was unable to make it to the March Meet this year.

Plans at the moment call for the Mr. Boston car to spend the next few months housed in Jensen’s shop in Sutter Creek, California. The new alliance hope to be able to attend a few more West Coast races before returning east when the weather warms up and the racing season comes to life.

The March Meet is a NHRA Heritage Series race held at Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, California. The historic event is scheduled for March 18-20. The race is supported by the AA/Fuel Dragster Association and is the inaugural event of their 2011 championship points chase.
