Mendy Fry Returning to Top Fuel

Distaff driver Mendy Fry is returning to her roots. After a couple of years away from the dragsters the 41 year old Northern California native, who now calls Southern California her home, is set to test in Mike Fuller’s front engine top fuel dragster.

Fry cut her teeth in race cars at a young age. At the tender age of four years old her father and mentor, Ron, strapped her in a quarter midget and she has been heavy on the throttle ever since. In the ensuing years she has added to her versatility by showing an uncanny ability to drive a variety of drag racing vehicles including door cars, Junior Fuel and Top Alcohol dragsters, Nostalgia Fuel Funny Cars (Future Flash & The Bomb Squad), and Nostalgia Top Fuel dragsters (the Bothello & Patterson car, Lee Jennings dragster and before that for Frank Hedge). In her previous stint in the AA/ Fuel Dragsters she earned charter membership in the 250 Mile per Hour Club (251) beating many of her male counterparts to those prestigious numbers.

Mendy has expressed her excitement about the opportunity to return to top fuel racing, but no one is happier about the news than her legion of fans. Fry will make her first test runs in the Forever Young dragster on April 29th and 30th at the Strip in Las Vegas.

According to car owner Fuller the change in the driving roster became necessary due to business commitments of regular driver Mike McLennan. “We signed on for a series of match races throughout the summer and McLennan’s new job now makes it impossible for him to forecast which races he will be able to attend”, stated Fuller. “It is unfortunate, but understandable, that in today’s economic climate he needs to put his career ahead of his hobby”. It is probable that the popular McLennan may still drive the car at the upcoming Nite of Fire & Thunder event at Bandimere Speedway in Denver, Colorado on May 20-21.
